I brought this list to my latest local tournament, mostly in another attempt to bring something unique to the table. I've been wanting to play some solid Yellows and I did a bit of experimentation before the tournament about which set of bounty hunters and smugglers I wanted to play.

A good portion of that testing went into a trial pair of Unkar Plutt - Junk Dealer and Bossk - Wookiee Slayer. It was a fun list that I may play again and refine a bit more, but as a last second decision I went for this.

I have wanted a good elite pair for IG-88 since I got him and Bazine's 10 cost was all I needed to have an excuse to play. This will be my report for the Q4 tournament we played along with a bit of my thoughts on the deck and what I will be changing about it for next time. I won't get into too much about why I included every individual card but I will discuss some cards that I plan to be excluding the future.

Report

  • Match 1: Vs eHan/eRey1

My first turn was an absolutely insane roll. I hit 2 Bazine Specials and 5 ranged on IG. Rey was dead immediately in turn 2. That sort of made the rest of the match play itself. Han did his Ambush shield shenanigans, but I just played some Backup Muscle and that was that, really. I owe this win entirely to an insane first round - one I did not expect to repeat. I was still pleased that my dice and cards worked out and felt good going into the second match.

  • Match 2: Vs eRey2/ePoe2

This match was recorded so I will share it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMaGJWpkxi4. This channel and it's communitity are still a lot of fun to play and record games with so I'm glad to be apart of their content and you should check em out.

Match started pretty great for me and I just sorta ran out of fuel. I won't go into too much of the play-by-play, since the video is right there, but ultimately between Poe's special and focus sides, he was just guaranteed more damage than I could remove or survive and he just always had the answers to counter my momentum changing damage and specials. Game was still close and a lot of fun, but spoiler: the Regional Championship dominating combo wins against my mostly-for-fun list.

  • Match 3: Vs eKylo2/Vader2

The only match-up in the whole room I was trying to avoid - for obvious reasons. Kylo Ren - Tormented One is a powerful card anyways, but against a mono-colored deck with exactly 2 off-color cards... boy. So uh... I lost pretty hard. That's the report. Not really sure what to do to overcome that huge disadvantage, I was just fortunate that only one person opted for that combo. The only thing to do is: Kill Kylo faster. But y'know. Sometimes the dice don't wanna cooperate.

  • Match 4: Vs eRey2/ePoe2

Another loss, not quite as bad as the last but definitely worse than the last R2/P2. I didn't hit my specials, I couldn't get any upgrades to stick on the board, I couldn't remove enough. Just didn't go my way but his upgrades just rolled even harder than the last R2/P2 match which resulted in 4+ damage every turn and a dead IG by round 3 I believe. Showed a lot of the flaws of my list while also highlighting what makes R2/P2 so consistent and dangerous.

OVERALL: 1W-3L

Not my best showing at these tournaments but that's what I get for trying something different without testing it much. So let's get into the analysis of what to change. Also at least one of the losses was basically free because playing Mono into Kylo2 is suicide.

What to Change

  • Way too expensive. If you look at the Charts, this list actually had more 1 costs than free - which is absolutely a result of this being a bit thrown together. The grander consequence is that I just ran out of things to play and mitigation options. In the re-work I will be aiming to get this balance to roughly half of the deck being free events so that I can always afford 2 shields or mitigation.
  • Not enough mitigation. I wanted to see more from the On The Hunt special as far as removal but it just didn't help - sometimes because I didn't have enough money to use the full effect. So ultimately I had 6 removal whereas I usually aim for 8-12 removal. Even things like Unpredictable help with just softening some of the impact but I could have included Sound The Alarm and Electroshock to make better use of my removal slots - even something like Threaten for later in the match could have helped.
  • IG couldn't live long enough. I had no real way to spread the damage or draw attention from IG and Bazine is just not threatening enough for them to bother with so shields are my only way to keep IG alive longer. And I needed WAY more of them. Bazine's low health and extremely low threat on dice (even with Deadly on the board) just let them focus down IG. Things like Bolt Hole might have prevented his death for a turn or two more, but I need to brainstorm some ways to keep him alive longer.
  • The backup plan when IG goes down - spoiler: there wasn't one. I either win by turn 4 or it's over. Which is hard when IG needs a turn or two to ramp up some upgrades. The deck needs a few more options for finishing out games. Things like Anarchy might help a bit for doing even more spread damage. I was hoping Armed to the Teeth and Fight Dirty would be enough but I ended up with only Bazine's yellows in the pool and only two upgrades on her ever.

Overall, the list was okay. Definitely not competitive and only somewhat fun in it's current state. I was happy it kind of worked sometimes but it wasn't down to the unique pair - I've had Thermal plays with other yellow characters. IG hits like a truck but without a proper dangerous partner to finish off matches, even early momentum just slows to a halt if he goes down. I'll keep working at it and post when I update it or the next time I play it on T3's channel but I think I might go back to the drawing board for my mono-yellow villains and see what else I can think up.

Any and all feedback is appreciated. Thanks for the read!

My buddy runs this deck but has Fast Hands in there also. It tends to live or die on if he can Fast Hands 3 damage every turn from IG and keep using deadly on Bazine. Fun deck though and sure hates shields.
